Prananathar mangalambigai temple is located in kumbakonam. This city is famous for temple and coffee.

There are numerous numbers of temples are available in kumbakonam and the main god is lord Shiva in most of the temple.

Prananathar Temple is located in the village of Thirumangalakudi 2 kilometres from the Aduthurai is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is glorified by the poems and lyrics of Appar.

The temple is a place of holy and purity like river Ganga, because the name of the god in this temple is started as mangalam which is positive sign for human’s welfare.

This is the unique thing happened before many centuries that in Hindu temple there is statue for main god and for several god will be there and names are different from each other but in this temple all the name of the god start in similar manner. Even the name of the town itself we can see that interesting fact.

The temple is glorified by Tevaram padal (song). The temple is believed to have been built by a minister of Kulothunga chola1 with the tax of money collective. The temple was renovated during the 11th century by Kulothunga Chola.  It is under the management of Tiruvavaduthurai Adheenam.

The interesting story is that temple construction is planned by minister with tax collection. This encouraged the anger of the king and he ordered punishment to the minister. The minister’s wife worshipped Mangalambigai (Parvathi) of this temple to save her Mangalyam (sacred tie worn by married woman). The minister was punished and his dead body was brought to Tirumangalakudi.

The moment it reached the place, he got his life back due to the effect of the presiding deity. From that incident, the place is believed to provide protection to Mangalyam.

Also when Navagrahas were annoyance to have leprosy by Brahma for relieving a saint from leprosy as they do not have authority to change destiny, Brahma asked them to go to thirumangalakkudi and pray Kol Vinai Theertha Vinayagar (Ganesh who absolved sins of planets) to be absolved from their sins.

And there is believe in Hindu culture that navagram curse can be only relieved by the worship of lord ganesh and lord hanuman.
